🌸 What is a Noun?

A noun is a word that names a person, place, thing, or idea.
It answers the question Who? or What?

🟢 Examples:

  • Person: teacher, doctor, Rahul
  • Place: school, city, garden
  • Thing: book, car, pen
  • Idea: love, honesty, happiness

🧩 Types of Nouns

1. Proper Nouns

Names of specific people, places, or things.

  • Always start with a capital letter.
    🟣 Examples: Anjali, India, Ganga River, Monday

2. Common Nouns

Names of general people, places, or things.
🔵 Examples: girl, country, river, day


3. Collective Nouns

Names of a group or collection of people, animals, or things considered as one.
🟢 Examples: team, bunch, herd, class, flock


4. Abstract Nouns

Names of ideas, qualities, or emotions — things we cannot see or touch.
🟡 Examples: beauty, courage, anger, freedom, honesty


5. Concrete Nouns

Names of things we can see, touch, taste, hear, or smell.
🔴 Examples: apple, table, dog, music, perfume


6. Countable Nouns

Things that can be counted (have singular and plural forms).

7. Uncountable Nouns

Things that cannot be counted individually.

8. Compound Nouns

Nouns made by joining two or more words.
